Only the bottom part of the ship is obscured by the mirror line, it never goes "over" the horizon it just keeps getting smaller in relation to the mirror line; the smaller it gets the more the bottom half gets obscured. Eventually the top half gets so small it passes the vanishing point.

If you search for it, you will find several tour groups who will take you to the Antarctica regions by plane. Because of the distance, their planes have to be, at least, two-engine planes that carry enough fuel and capability to get back in the event of engine trouble. There are only about 3 tour groups that have planes like these. You will have to Google search. But they are not hard to find.

The world isn't flat. Luke in the Bible, "says that if you stand on any highest thing so you can see the everything of the world," which means that there are some very high places on the earth, and very low places. "High" means that there is no flat. It means that there is low as well. The earth is absolutely not flat. From subatomic to microscopic to mountain tops there are hills and valleys of all kinds. Nothing is flat... especially not the earth.
