Well, Indeed they won against the "SUNS!", though win is a win. Lebron may not be aiming for the championship, but the management always do.
I don't think that any player will not be aiming for the championship. I mean that is the reason why they play in certain reason. Also, I don't think that there are other reasons to play the NBA but to win the championship right? If they don't aim for the championship, they what are they aiming? Fame? to be the Best? If they want to be famous and to be called the "best" player or team of that certain season, they should be able to take the championship or even join or compete for the conference finals.
You are generalizing it to all players mate. I think what he meant is that, LeBron
"MIGHT" not be aiming aggressively for championship this time
"BUT" he will do his best in every game as he mentioned in an interview upon accepting the deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
LeBron can just go to Sixers or any other contender team if he is really eager to get the trophy this season. My guess is, who knows some preparations are now being discussed on the table about the Lakers' target in the next free agency and that will be the time they will catch the trophy. LeBron's presence in the Lakers as part of the first plan will be able to attract big names in the next free agency + the possible max contract.
But again, it doesn't mean he will not do his best to became a Lakers champion this season. If they ended up there then good, if not then fine. He will just continue to play at his best.
Just my speculation though. Feel free to criticized it.
