Altcoins tend to be tied or "pegged" against the major crypto's which introduces more volatility!! This is best understood by way of example:
When ABC/ETH is 0.100 and ETH/USD = $500 Then ABC/USD = $50
Scenario 1 - ETH/USD goes to $1000 (100% increase in ETH/USD) while ABC/ETH stays constant = 0.100 Then ABC/USD = $100 (also 100% increase)
Scenario 2 - ETH/USD goes to $1000 (100% increase in ETH/USD) while ABC/ETH increase to = 0.200 Then ABC/USD = $200 (200% increase)
So the increase in ABC/ETH is added to the increase in ETH/USD to get to the "sum total" increase in ABC/USD. Likewise decreases can be amplified!!! And crypto is already so volatile on its own
