Glad the re-branding conversation went full circle and yes, this has been done a few times before.
The concept of "Dark" is romantic and stirs the imagination when it comes to privacy.
I personally think we will lose a lot of our image if we go to PrivacyCoin, it's too sterile.
I don't think anyone suggested privacycoin as a name (at least not this round). When I made my two suggestions, it was in the event that a rebrand needed to happen due to dark having a negative connotation that prevents mainstream, broad adoption. I am 100% find with the name as is, but also agree that mainstream is off the table. Regulators just won't have any of it in all honesty but I am fine with that because the underground markets, gambling, drugs, porn, etc has a large enough marketshare and userbase to make it a worthwhile investment. The most likely situation is bitcoin complies to heavy regulation and those that use bitcoin venture into darkcoin for privacy.
