Bitcoin seems to attract extremely talented people. Many are already mentioned here but I want to mention a few more.
I would like to start with
Con Kolivas to this list, an Australian anaesthetist that gave us cgminer and the solo mining pool ckpool. He's known here in the forum as
-ck. I would say he has been extremely influential in the Bitcoin world. Almost the entire mining industry adopted cgminer in one way or another, and even these days ckpool keeps finding blocks.
Open source has benefited Bitcoin immensely. This is a good opportunity to also acknowledge
jgarzik who published the
CPU Bitcoin miner that would eventually be forked by -ck and turned into cgminer. Also of course there's the great work of
kano who has contributed many things, like cgminer's API which enabled the creation of multiple miner dashboards, and is the
current maintainer of cgminer, adding support for the latest GekkoScience Compac F, which were created by the talented
sidehack. There's also all the great work done by
Luke-Jr with
bfgminer, and other projects like Bitcoin Core development and keeping alive a lot of tools and projects like a graph of the
number of Bitcoin nodes, and others.
Mike Caldwell gave us the
casascius coins, creating a whole industry of physical bitcoins and bitcoin related art. There's a lot of people in that space that have created amazing things, like
kialara for example.
There are of course a lot more people that should be mentioned here, but I think I made the point already. The more I learn about Bitcoin, the more I realize this space is filled with a huge and diverse group of extremely talented people. Bitcoin is a great technology, but what makes it absolutely amazing is the people that are involved in it.
