Agree Porf, we are on the same page here. Anyway no worries, I have already sent him a personal message with detailed explanation what we are, what we do, that the topic contains errors, that it need fixing etc. I meant everything, I even pointed out the errors myself. So don't worry, he'll understand when he sees my PM. But if he doesn't do any of that, then we'll have to discard this topic. Let's wait and see.

I don't know if it's a good idea to post another topic with (almost) same information... as in revamping it. I remember that there were heavy debates at some point, regarding creating a new, revamped, topic for replacing Lauda's topic [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? -- which is also a sticky one in B&S board. There were people accepting the idea of a revamped topic, since Lauda left the forum, but since some of the information from her topic would have been presented in the revamped one, this led others to protest regarding breaking the authorship of the information. In the end, Lauda's topic remained and no revamped topic was created. So if we'll create a new thread with information from this one, this may lead to plagiarism accusations or breaking authorship etc., therefore I'd suggest to wait OP's reaction and, if he will not co-operate, to focus on another topic instead.

The situation is delicate and debatable... As you saw, in Lauda's case, her topic was not removed from Sticky section and also no other thread was made, although her topic is outdated... For example, theymos could have agreed to change the topic author and allow the new author to revamp the thread but, in this case, it would have meant that someone stole Lauda's work... Each party (the ones pro and the ones against) can bring arguments but the real issue is, if someone would do a thing like this (copy-paste from someone else's work without approval), will that user face the risk of being accused of plagiarism?

I believe such risks exists, although good explanations can be provided (e.g.: the author of the original thread is inactive; or, the author of the original thread does not wish to update his thread and his topic contains inaccurate things etc.). I, for one, would prefer to hope that the author will be responsive and willing to co-operate since, after all, we are trying to help him and others users as well... We act in good faith here and for the good of others too... So, perhaps, let's hear what the author will say about our proposal...


I wrote in my previous post that I believe it is a useful topic and I have no objection about translating it... Of course, witcher_sense should be informed as well and believe he will be pleased hearing about our intention...
