Yes. Bitcoin is still "young". There's a long road ahead before it can surpass Gold in market cap (if it ever does). At the rate Bitcoin is growing, I'm certain it will overcome Gold's market cap soon. Everybody is talking about BTC being "the next big thing". So it should only be a matter of time before Gold becomes a thing of the past.
Anything can happen and I agree with you and everyone that bitcoin has a chance to surpass gold, but I am not sure about it. This is an extremely difficult task for bitcoin, requiring a lot of effort and time.
Even if bitcoin surpasses gold, gold cannot become a thing of the past, it will coexist with bitcoin. Because its needs and use cases are so important to our world.
Even the US under Donald Trump's leadership, is considering selling the FED's gold reserves to buy more BTC. The world is finally coming down to its senses.
Trump does not have the power and authority to decide to sell the US gold held by the Fed. It's just a rumor, like him saying he'll run for a third term, which is almost impossible.
Don't ever think Bitcoin will replace Fiat, though. Governments won't allow that to happen anytime soon. It doesn't matter, anyways. Bitcoin already brought "banking to the unbanked". So it's a "winner" in my book.

Bitcoin is being seen more as an investment asset than a legitimate currency. We cannot use bitcoin to buy goods or payments, so I don't think it can help people who don't have bank accounts.
