Bitcoin and gold actually have some similarities, but Bitcoin is better than gold itself because it has appreciated in value surpassing gold. As a store of value, Bitcoin sustains the value of your currency, and make it appropriate in value over time. Originally, Bitcoin is known as digital currency currency, but I think the performance of Bitcoin in terms of value appreciation made investors to assign the name digital gold. Furthermore, the volatile nature of Bitcoin is for the benefit of investors, this makes Bitcoin to fluctuate in price , and give people the opportunity of investing when the price of Bitcoin goes down because of Bitcoin is only going up, many people would loose the opportunity of investing especially retail investors.
Bitcoin pumping harder than gold doesn't make it better than gold. That only makes it better in terms of investment return, not in every other aspect.
The two asset have different characteristics, purposes, risk profiles. If you are judging which one is better based only on price gains. You're confusing investment returns with asset's value and role.
Second, Bitcoin may offer higher returns but it come with higher risk too. And volatility can give you a chance to buy the dip, but it can just as easily leave you with heavy losses.
Not everyone who invest in BTC comes out in profit, volatility are also why a lot of folks think twice before putting money into it.
