Scam losses in Hawaii involving Bitcoin ATM has quadruple, the best thing they can do right now is to ban it, this scam is near impossible to trace just like the commissioner of Hawaii banking said.
There will always be people who aren't smart and there is no way to tell them not to exists, they are people like us so let's not say that the scam tricks are too cheap, I wouldn't fall for it though but some people will.
I like this approach they took, since the ATM is still useful it's better to make it tough for scammers to use it as a tool than ban it completely, maybe other states that banned it completely could learn from it and reconsider bringing back the crypto ATM's. Scammers have made cryptocurrency look like a tool created for scam and i like it when measures like these are taken to make it tougher for them to achieve their ATM, Hawaii just ended the use of crypto ATM for deceit and it's impressive.
Hawaii didn't totally ban the use of crypto ATM.
It's just that the government is poised to tackle the origin of failure from consumers, that scammers have become convenient with, while protecting the consumer and also allowing them access to their crypto asset.
So they restricted only physical cash in kiosk unlike how some other states ensured total ban of existing kiosk and they try to make sure consumers use online channels like existing CEX systems that can easily be monitored and tracked.
This is a great move to help protect the essence of why Bitcoin which is the leading crypto currency, was created.
I think they did unless the news I read is not a legit one, it is said that the people behind the scams are still unknown due to the nature of how they how the attack was carried out, the attackers remains anonymous and almost impossible to trace or apprehend them.
