It is still possible to use a hardware wallet, if passphrase is active on the hardware wallet it will show 0 balance and that's what OP needs in an environment where there is more people.

Even if someone gets limited access to the hardware wallet it's simply empty or OP should stay with hot wallets for a while in such environment, hot wallet remains an app on a smartphone so no one will know since your phone will always be on you.
