What's the point of Bitcoin then, do they feel it's all about investment?
When you hear about Bitcoin, privacy and control over your money is primarily the point of Bitcoin, if individuals can't trade their own Bitcoin with others, how much financial freedom or privacy is left then ? , slowly they are getting rid of decentralization
No, they're not. It's not that easy to get rid of decentralization. Russia and other countries can only restrict/limit people using custodial wallets and/or centralized exchanges. But they can't enforce the rule of law on decentralized protocols/networks. Bitcoin by itself, is a decentralized network.
What's stopping Russians from using BTC in a completely non-custodial manner? Like using DEXs or P2P exchanges to buy/sell BTC, as well as, storing your coins in non-custodial wallets with keys under your control. Throw in TOR + VPN, while you're at it. This makes it impossible for Russia to get its hands outside the centralized world. Just follow the necessary security precautions to avoid getting caught, and there should be nothing to worry about.
In Russia, the authorities are actively combating VPNs. Their websites are blocked, and VPN advertising is prohibited. VPNs are blocked by both IP address and protocol. Total internet traffic filtering using DPI is being implemented. 🙋
All Russian websites are participating in the government's crackdown on VPNs. If a Russian citizen visits a Russian website with a VPN enabled, that website is required to detect the user's IP address and forward this information to the relevant authorities for blocking.
Russians are also required to install and use apps that spy on smartphone users, detecting VPNs and cryptocurrency wallets on their smartphones.
The ban on P2P cryptocurrency trading is just one measure aimed at creating a system of total control over cryptocurrency flows in the Russian Federation. There are many such measures, and new ones are being developed daily.
Furthermore, since Russia is under economic sanctions, many cryptocurrency exchanges refuse to work with Russian citizens. This, of course, doesn't mean that Russians don't hold cryptocurrency anymore... Of course, they hold it and use it. 💁
