The coins move to the stake category after they have staked, not while they are hashing. They stay there until they get enough confirmations.

I'll give it a shot.

1st off, it is automatic. If you are open, unlocked, connected, and in sync, it will happen.

However you can get a better idea of when it's going to stake by looking at the little tab at the bottom (mining symbol in the prerelease, I think a green arrow now, but I'm not at the right computer) and hover over it. It will show you estimated time to stake (wildly inaccurate on EVERY PoS coin) and your stake weight vs. network weight.

As I understand it, and presstab/others feel free to correct me, difficulty can't readjust until a block is found. Given how long it's taking, it will probably adjust rather severely this time 'round. Once it does, the next few blocks eligible for stake should go fairly quickly. If they go TOO quickly, there will be more long rounds. So it's a good idea to use coin control to aggregate your blocks in a staggered fashion. I was late to the game on this coin (as in I'd already purchased a bunch of TEK when I found out about it) so I've only got one block right now of seventyish coins. But those of you with large numbers, please consider staggering your blocks over a several day period. You'll initially lose some coin maturity doing this, but that should average out fairly quickly. There are two plus sides to doing this. One, you'll have something staking every day, and two, if the majority of us do this, the blockchain will move at a much steadier and predictable pace.

I don't think the clients netweight gets updated till the block is solved. It's probably HUGE

I'd rather just wait a day and see how the blockchain will move tomorrow. There should be lots of people with weight now today, I think we're just on a really hard block all day.

I think we should wait for a bit and see if we get a block. If we don't then we can fork and it will be no problem. It is also an option to add PoW back to make sure we always have transactions processing.

So just know there is nothing to be worried about... if we are stuck then we will fork and be back up and running. But I don't think we are stuck. We just need some blocks to create good weight.

Also I am thinking about implementing NovaCoin Fast Stake immediately (doesn't require fork). I think it might enable us to hash faster.

Well here is the formula:


So you are hashing a bunch of things together like the transaction time, stake modifier, current time, etc and the goal is to get a hash that is less than the difficulty target multiplied by your coin weight. So naturally the longer you wait, the higher the stake weight will be and therefore the easier it will be to get a hash that meets the requirement.

So that is why at a time like now, having a bunch of small blocks with weight is not as good as one big block with weight. The big block has a much higher chance of staking sooner.

If this continues to be a problem in the future (which I think won't be a problem after another week) then we could hardfork and eliminate the PoW restriction and open it back up.  That way if we are waiting for a stake block to come in, the chain will still move transactions.
