Too much high-tech here, perhaps...? What about writing your username on a piece of paper and the current time and date, then photographing that piece of paper with your loot from two different angles/arrangements? That'd be difficult enough to fake that it would be near-impossible to convincingly imitate with software and still simple enough that anyone can do it. Then, when you're called out to verify your holdings by someone, you just re-write a new scrap of paper with current time and date + username and your holdings. Easiest solution, yes?

Pretty much, yep. Less is more with this stuff, I think. Get it secure enough for our purposes and then let it be. Life is complicated enough already
