@Come-from-beyond : while I can't assist the person claiming for repayment/stolen funds, would you be able to comment if my IOTAS are safe in my wallet [assuming that I don't look back for an year, and don't do reattachment and wallet upgrade for couple of months]
I have experienced it myself in past that when I upgrade to newer version of IOTA wallet my balance shows 0.00 at first, than I have to do generate new address attach to tangle few times and my whole balance comes back again.
But I am concerned about the future, as I want to hold my IOTAs in my wallet for long term, is it okay to leave it as it is, without wallet upgrade/attach to tangle?
You get this zero balance thing only after a snapshot happened. With the new 2.5.5 wallet for example, your balance will show up without generating/attaching addresses, since there has been no snapshot recently. The Trinity wallet will make this an automated process afaik.
I think there is no guarantee, that you can forget about your IOTA for some time and come back and have them all available. IOTA is still under heavy development and it's nowhere near the final design in its current state. But Cfb can you give a better insight on that matter I think
