You can't really blame people who are uninformed about bitcoin. First, Bitcoin was popularized by the use in the darknet through the silkroad and because of that it really had a bad first impression to the world.
We actually can blame people for thinking like how they are doing right now. Especially in the case of them so easily taking everything the media says for granted. It doesn't cost a lot effort to do some research yourself in order to know what Bitcoin is, and how it can be used to benefit them. But instead, they just assume Bitcoin is like the media is saying it is.
SilkRoad can be seen as the very first successful merchant depending fully on Bitcoin. At the time I entered the world of Bitcoin, this didn't bother me at all. I didn't look at it as being a negative point. I looked at it as being a great example of how well Bitcoin is working as currency tool.
What we should do, as bitcoin advocates, is that we promote bitcoin as a currency that can be used for our basic needs like groceries and pay our bills.
Yep. If people after that still don't see much added value in using Bitcoin, then you at least have tried it, and they know what Bitcoin is. When at some point they are ready for it, then they know where and what to look for.
