Has anyone read the Chia FAQ? Its saying that farming will "not be profitable" but it also says that it isnt costing the farmer anything.

They already assume that ordinary people will plot their hard drives for farming Chia. The FAQ also says that the more plotted storage space you have, the more chance you have in farming the next block.

Is Bram Cohen trying to discourage a farming arms race?

Q: Does more hard disk space mean more Chia?

A: Your chances of farming the next block are directly proportional to the amount of storage space you allocate to Chia farming.
Q: Is it worth buying hard drives to farm Chia?

A: Chia believes that it will be unprofitable to buy hard drives just for the purposes of farming, as everyone will be able to get rewards from unused storage - which there is a lot of. Farming rewards will likely be small, but it isn't costing a farmer anything extra if you already have the storage for some other reason.

People have already paid for a lot of unused storage capacity - there's ridiculous excess resources available - so it will be unprofitable to buy storage just for the sake of farming. This is directly related to storage being useful for other things, although it isn't "useful" farming in the sense that the calculation itself isn't productive, but it is leveraging a useful resource.

To the extent that Chia unexpectedly drives developments that decrease the cost of storage, we think that's a benefit for society - especially when compared to wasting electricity on custom ASIC mining hardware.

Hard fork is upon us in 4 days.

Even if you are the "just in time" type of guy, you should now make sure you have the newest software.

BRS 2.2.0 (or 2.2.1 to be released soon), or newest Qbundle.

New miners, capable of PoC1->PoC2 conversion (jminer, newest creepminer, blago fork in Qbundle)

And starting to convert your plots to PoC2.

If all this sounds like gibberish for you, it's 5 to twelve for you. The links from the BWR #39 above will help you out. Start reading!

BRS 2.2.1 is released! Like rico666 said, it is very important to run the latest release to avoid any problems when the fork happens on block 500,000.

On-line or off-line wallet, don't change anything, your passphrase to log in on a wallet is your private key, if you put it in an on-line wallet, or in a off-line wallet (downloaded the wallet for your computer) you will always find your coins.

quick question: what will happen if we don't upgrade to poc2 and keep mining in a non dymaxion pool? because from what i understood the coins will be the same. so what's the difference ?

It is also same to whats called a brain wallet. Its not as secure as the standard cryptocurrency wallet, but its secure enough if you know how to keep and manage your keys well.

If you have optimized PoC1 plots then you can still mine after the hard fork. For questions on speed in forging blocks, you should go tor/burstcoin and ask the miners.

I think the Polonies and Bitrix exchanges have already missed their best times. And new good times for them have not yet come, so now it is better to bypass these two exchanges and not to go there at all.

Well then i have bad luck, both livecoin and poloniex have their burst wallet closed, my coins are stuck at bittrex because my adress is not verified!

So if Anyone can send me some coins, i will pay you back the moment i have them from the exchange.

Begging should be discouraged. It would be better if newbs get their first Bursts from a faucet or use an exchange that allows them to withdraw in a new address.

That said, the Burst network is running well without problems after the fork! Can anyone confirm if Poloniex supported to the fork?
