This wont apply to me shortly since ill only be sticking around to see any replies to this, but i just want to point out the obvious, and that is that this is a very broken system that heavily favours reddit-style ass-kissing (i've always had a hunch ex or even current reddit moderators have also infested this site, but now i am sure of it) which is just absurd, for obvious reasons. The only way merit is created is by these meriter members, right? and they are completely unbiased, impartial, and dont engage in favouritism is any way? can i see the proof that anything has been done to ensure these things dont happen? When someone gives you merit, you can send half of it to someone else. ok, can you do that at any time or just at the point in time you've received it? the answer to that question is likely irrelevant because either way the glaring issue is still very much visible: if people need merit to level up, who the hell that wants to rank up is going to actually send half of it to someone else? very few, guaranteed. another major overlooked issue, and this one is likely the biggest one, is that people will obviously only merit you if they agree with you. you could make a very detailed post or make a very good argument to something someone has said, which ive done many times, but if the other people that view the thread in the short time following you posting (because i doubt people merit posts from ages ago) dont agree with you (even if they are certainly, verifiably wrong), well guess what? thats right, no merit. this is classic reddit fuckery, the primary thing ruining that site is exactly what will result in the end of this site, and it will be a deserved downfall, if it hasnt already begun. i only found this site by chance after all, never heard of it other than 1 comment i read on askgamblers.com, so its probably dead already. there are several other issues but im wasting my time saying anything so ill just leave it at that.
The merit system has its shortcomings, but you clearly haven't understood the system at all. It would be better for you to read the thread again.
When you earn 2 merit, you get the right to send 1 merit. This is called sMerit (sendable merit). When you send that merit, your own merit count doesn't decrease. You can send your sMerit anytime you want.
You don't need to agree with people to earn or send merit. Giving merit doesn't mean "I agree" either. Messages that show effort and quality receive merit.
The forum is not similar to Reddit. It can hardly be said that upvotes and merit are similar either.
The forum has been going strong since Bitcoin's launch. Don't worry, nothing will happen to the forum.
Lastly, don't quote the entire post.
I never claimed the voting system or site structure mirrors Reddit. My point was specific: the merit system creates Reddit-style moderation dynamics where you're incentivized to say what earns approval rather than what you actually think.
On a forum meant for discussion and debate, that's poison.
You're right that I misunderstood one mechanic - sMerit doesn't deplete your own count. Fair enough. But that doesn't address the core problem: merit still functions as a gatekeeper controlled by subjective judgment, and you're naive if you think "effort and quality" are measured objectively. People reward posts they agree with or find agreeable, whether they admit it or not. I've watched this play out on Reddit for years - well-argued posts that challenge the consensus get buried, while bland conformity gets rewarded.
You say giving merit doesn't mean "I agree," but in practice? It absolutely does. No one's handing out merit to posts that piss them off, no matter how well-reasoned. The result is the same manufactured, risk-averse tone that's made Reddit unbearable - everyone gaming the system by saying what's safe and popular instead of what's true or worth saying.
The "whole post quoting" complaint is ignored because let's not pretend that's the actual issue here. The merit system punishes dissent and rewards conformity. If you can't see how that suffocates real discussion, we're talking past each other.
Sometimes the best response to a broken system is just walking away. That's the plan.

I think he is only frustrated because he has been registered since April 05, 2025 but he has not been given a single merit before. His post already showed how he is not going to the right direction of learning how to earn merit by posting better posts but instead he preferred to pour our his anger which can not in any way help him.
its funny you made your account in august 2025 yet have over 60 merit because you are whoring it in the nigerian boards lmao jog on kid, you are the perfect example of what im getting at.
