    Had few different opinions on that. at this stage 76 days until the event, dont even know whats available. This is part of the reason i saw a Proffessional Event Organiser yesterday.

    Also the casino has conference rooms etc attached , we wouldnt be "in" the actual casino.

    Geocached. Then you wouldn't have to be a local to find them, and it would be a great way to learn about the city.

    Might be way too expensive, but wanted to throw the idea out anyway. Maybe the hunt could be sponsored to cover part (or all) of the cost.

    I remember hearing a about a similar thing that happened, where a bunch of keys to new cars were hidden across the city. It generated a frenzy of people searching and a huge amount to media coverage.

    I reckon it'd be a great way to generate awareness of digital currency, and demonstrate a clear benefit: that large amounts of money can be conveniently stored on small devices.

    I had another idea on this. Suppose the hunt were prearranged for a particular starting point and the hunters were given a fist full of pamphlets each. Now, instead of hiding the prizes in random places, they were all being held by shops, restaurants and such. The job would be to go into any place you find open and ask "Do you accept bitcoin?" The proprietors would either look at you with a blank stare, ask "WTF are bitcoins?" or say "Yes we do". The hunters would claim their prize or leave a pamphlet for the business owner (and possibly one to advertice the iWOB conference to post in the window), so that more exposure is generated and possibly more business will end up accepting bitcoin. I don't think prizes would have to be huge. Offer a 5-10 bitcoin incentive to the business owners too, just for trying trying bicoin out. We'd have to organize some POS solutions for taking payments though. Mobiles with pre-installed bitcoin apps would do.

    Plans are progressing. Website is coming along, hopefully can be launched in next few days
    Still looking for community input and volunteers to help Cheesy

    Something to come out of this is the need for a Not For Profit Bitcoin organisation in Australia to promote and publicise bitcoin. We will need some Australian Bitcoiners to form a management group and would like to hold our 1st full meeting at Bitcoin AU 2011 and invite all Australian bitcoiners to participate Smiley

    I'd like to express my desire to be involved part of this idea.

    Oh, and in other news I own bitcoin.org.au

    I have limited experience with NFP, insofar as a member, never on a board or whatnot.

    I am however a somewhat active entrepreneur, between enterprises, and the idea of starting Bitcoin Dot Org (or whatever nomenclature) is enticing.

    Expressions of interest to discuss this further?

    in terms of venue's, surely someone has fingers in the pies of universities - I can't imagine some of those types wouldn't at least raise their eyebrows.

    I am dissapointed to announce:
    After consultation with other people active in the planning and the Event Organisers it has been decided to reschedule the Melbourne Bitcoin Event to late Febuary or early March 2012.
    Mainly due to lack of suitable venue.

    The bright side of this is it gives us more time for planning and making sure we get good publicity before the event.

    A few things to note:
    Businesses planning to exhibit will need to be proper trading entities and have liabilty insurance cover for the event.
    The event organisers have contacts at Crown and belive we can get a suitable venue for a weekend.
    We are looking at accomodation packages but will expect attendees to find their own transport.

    Still looking for ideas and quality speakers for the event

    I will post more shortly

    Presumably this is a requirement of the venue. Could you please post the exact wording of what type (and amount) of liability insurance cover the venue requires. Can the event organisers please purchase blanket insurance cover and split the cost amongst the exhibitors?

    I don't think your ultra-cautious approach is going to produce a vibrant and lively conference. Why not feature a Bitcoin-centric version of the "Agora Valley" that is held as part of the Porcupine Freedom Festival?

    Just make sure the accommodation package isn't a compulsory bundle. For the proposed European conference it turned out that most attendees prefer a cheaper and more flexible accommodation option than the official conference accommodation.

    Absolutely legal but you can't conduct business under anything other than your own name without registering the business name you want to use.

    Interestingly, few Bitcoin related names appear on either the business names register or the company names register.
    All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

    sole trader is a proper trading entity and can get liability insurance

    these are requirements of the venue - we will provide more information as it comes to hand.

    um "My" ultra cautious approach? I do not understand.

    Accomodation will be offered but there will be no requirement for attendees to use/book/pay for anything they dont need. But as we will be having international attendees and guests it may be desired by some.
