Any new news on this? 9 months+
Hi again wizkid057
It will soon be 6 months... We could at lest get an answer is you still plan to distribute BTC to miners... Any idea when or will be used in some other way?
Regards
Hi wizkid057
How is distributing that 200 BTC to miners going?
https://bt.irlbtc.com/view/441465.msg7282674#msg7282674My original plan was to return the coins we have held in offline storage to the rightful owners the miners who were submitting real work and were affected by the withholding attack by paying towards shelved shares accrued during that time period (doing this is non-trivial due to security measures in place). This is still my intention...
Or is this changed. Might have missed it. My problem is that my address at that time was compromised. And looking all the time if something is there is a bit stressful... So knowing when this will happen would help... Changing address that I had would also help...
Hi Everyone,
To the topic of the withholder issue funds, I have not had the time to dedicate to the coding for this. Since Eligius has been designed specifically to prevent anyone, including myself, from moving balances or otherwise disturbing user stats and the like, doing so involves quite a bit of coding and some redesign to the existing system to make this a secure thing.
Due to non-bitcoin non-Eligius related matters in real life I've not had as much time to dedicate to Eligius over the past several months as I would have liked. Fortunately in the coming weeks (after the holidays) my schedule opens up significantly and I will be back to completing many of my Eligius related projects.
In the meantime I've been dedicating the time I do have towards improving the back end of things so that everything just runs more smoothly with limited amounts of human intervention needed. This has been working out well, and many have noted the increase in overall reliability of the pool due to these improvements. I expect to continue to improve everything as time goes on.
So in short, I haven't forgotten about the withholder funds. They will basically be distributed to the CPPSRB share log towards the shares of that time period that were shelved. Fortunately many of those were already paid by decent luck following the exile of the withholder, so, it will likely dig up some even older shelved shares when I do get to this. This basically will have no effect on anyone who started mining after the withholder incident.
I do actively check a large majority of statistics looking for potential block withholders. There is a huge margin for error in these stats nowadays though, with the difficulty being so high. However, I don't really even see any potential candidates for withholders currently, so, all seems well.
