Yesm you can skip over largerly irrelevant parts of history - e.g. when Ruzzia was ruled from Kiev - and still perfectly understand that Ukraine has not attacked Ruzzia, but rather the opposite. Moscow created a frozen conflict in the Dombas and then used it to further take Crimean. There is no Ukranian agression whatsoever in all this and you do not need to go to the theories about the Mechivick or Bolshevik revolutions and how was it promoted.

Looks like glorious Russian aerospace forces were so excited bombing Ukraine that they shot down an Azerbaijani passenger jet just for shits and giggles. Can't wait for the kremlinbots to tell us it was actually Ukrainians who rented an anti-aircraft system in Poland and smuggled it into Chechnia.

Russia didn't simply retaliate for Ukrainian aggression this time. Rather, Putin did their big push for two other reasons:
1. To show the world that Ukraine is at their mercy;
2. To calm things down a little so that the Russian troops can take the Russian Christmas (January 7) 'off', sort of, while Ukraine tries to regroup... do they have anybody left to regroup?

Watch Ukraine do more damage to themselves after their regrouping, by attacking Russia in some other way. Other nations live and learn. Why not Ukraine?

For a while, this looked like a civil war. But it's beginning to look like Mommy spanking the unruly Child.

For the second year, Ukrainians were trying to celebrate Christmas on December 25th, a new date differing from long-established Orthodox Calendar that takes place on January 7th – in a bid to 'erase Russian influence'.

But for many, there was opportunity for merriment, as Russian forces enacted yet another massive air raid all over Ukraine, targeting the power infrastructure.

Reuters reported:

"Russia attacked Ukraine's energy system and some cities with cruise and ballistic missiles plus drones on Wednesday in an "inhuman" Christmas Day assault, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said."

[…] Half a million people in Kharkiv region were left without heating, in temperatures just a few degrees Celsius above zero, while there were blackouts in the capital Kyiv and elsewhere."

Since the spring, Russia has intensified attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector damaging most of its generating capacity and causing prolonged blackouts.

"Ukraine's Energy Minister German Galushchenko said on Facebook that Russia was massively attacking the power sector and that restrictions on electricity supply were in place.

[…] Ukraine's largest private energy company DTEK said its generating facilities were attacked, with power equipment seriously damaged, in the 13th large-scale assault on the energy sector this year."

They should have alerted all civilian traffic to divert BEFORE they started firing SAMs but that's too much work for the drunk generals. Human lives aren't worth shit in Russia anyway so why even bother.

Now large part of Russian air space is unsafe for civilian aircrafts as they can be misidentified as Ukrainian drone. But what you can expect from them when Russian propaganda release such videos few days after terrorist attack:

Russia yawns a little when they hear Ukraine blabbing. Then, when Ukraine does anything hostile against them, they simply retaliate on a much larger scale. Where in the world is 'dinky' Ukraine on that globe?

I looked for Ukraine on maps. They haven't updated the land Russia took to be Russian, yet... you know. The Black Sea Corridor.
