You contradict yourself immediately in your first sentence.  First off bitcoin is inherently NOT an investment.  Bitcoin was designed to be digital cash.  Of course it's become one, no different than when products are made to selltrade the US dollar, or the Euro.  Also, bitcoin does not guarantee any sort of return or profit so saying as such is not wise.  If it were such a great hedge, then it wouldn't be volatile.  See what you're doing here?  Gold is the best hedge asset.  Maybe bitcoin is becoming more so one, and it does kind of feel that way.  But it's not there yet.
