LinkBuying Bitcoin without having an emergency fund was the biggest mistake you made while starting your journey many years ago, because if eventually you were able to buy with some spare funds that wasn't urgent, you probably wouldn't have sold all and had a few as Bitcoin appreciated around 2020/2021. But however, I'm happy you learnt from your previous mistake and now holds Bitcoin with an amount you can always afford to lose. So back to the question you just asked above regarding what percentage is best to diversify as a Bitcoin investor. And for me, I will say 80% in Bitcoin is best while our cash should be 20%, because investment is always meant to be higher than expenditure.
The idea of having Bitcoin as emergency is very wrong since the price of Bitcoin is not stable, it can fluctuate and lose it entire value over a period of time. Bitcoin can be bought and hold after you have your emergency fund separated from your Bitcoin portfolio.
Op can not be selling his Bitcoin any time he has emergency which is very wrong and it's not the main purpose of holding Bitcoin.
We have been seeing how the price of Bitcoin as been rising and falling and for someone that is holding Bitcoin for time of emergency and find themselves in a big loses.
Emergency funds should never be kept in volatile currencies. I always prefer to keep emergency funds stable and easily accessible.
Because selling something in an emergency and then getting those funds is a separate problem, and this problem is very bad during an emergency, it will only put you in unnecessary trouble.
And at the same time, when it is in an unstable place, it is definitely not a good thing, because it can also decrease during your emergency, and then you will have to sell your that invested emergency fund at a loss, and because of this loss, you may not have enough to meet your emergency needs.
And so Bitcoin is never the right place to keep emergency funds, Bitcoin is an investment, and emergency funds should be kept in cash or in the bank. or if you want, you can buy gold and keep it, because many people do this too.
