Will you still be holding BTC if the price is fixed like a Stablecoin?
To be honest, of course I still save and invest in Bitcoin, the point is you can't equate Bitcoin and Stablecoins, they are like land and the sky is very different.
Honestly, I never imagined or thought Bitcoin would remain the same price as Stablecoins.
The reasons are simple and have all been explained in the Bitcoin and Stablecoin book.
1. Determining Value (Valuation)
Bitcoin (BTC): Its value is purely determined by market mechanisms based on the law of supply and demand, macroeconomic conditions and global sentiment.
Stablecoin: Its value is kept stable by using a peg system against a real asset, such as a fiat currency (e.g. US Dollar) or a commodity such as gold.
2. Volatility Level
Bitcoin: Highly volatile. The price can rise or fall significantly in a short time.
Stablecoin: Designed to have a stable price and minimal volatility (for example 1 USDT or 1 USDC is equivalent to around 1 US Dollar).
3. Main Function
Bitcoin: Generally used as a long-term investment instrument, store of value, hedge, or treasury asset.
Stablecoins: More often used for daily transaction needs, payments, money transfers (settlements), and maintaining liquidity in the crypto market without having to cash it back into a bank account.
4. Issuer and Risk Structure
Bitcoin: Does not have a central issuing entity (issuer) or physical asset reserves behind it. The main risks come from market price fluctuations and personal storage risk (custody risk).
Stablecoin: Issued by a specific party (centralized like Tether/Circle) or via a decentralized protocol. The main risks include the risk of failure of the issuer (issuer risk), asset reserve problems (reserve), as well as the risk of losing the value benchmark (depeg).
From the points I quoted above, it is quite clear and honestly your argument is completely wrong, you cannot compare Bitcoin and Stablecoins.
I deliberately cited the differences between Bitcoin and Stablecoins, so that in the future you will no longer compare the two.
