    As a result, for the last few months, I've been taking advantage of the low BTC/USD pricing, and every time I think about buying another miner, I just buy 1BTC instead on Coinbase and think to myself "Now wasn't that easier and more cost-effective ?"

    Given the current price of ~$235 USD/BTC, it doesn't make any financial sense purchasing miners at their current pricing. An S5 priced at $340 is presently looking @ ~1year of runtime for ROI, excluding electrical and power supply costs.

    It doesn't make any sense at all to buy Bitmain products, presently - A ROI will be difficult and uncertain.

    +1. the prices are a bit high, yet understandable.
    1) theres minimal competition
    2) theres a strong market within china (where the shipping cost is <40% of sending overseas)
    3) The units could be profitable for those with <7c/kwh power (especially if located in china and saving a large chunk of the shipping cost)

    to be entirely honest, its all a gamble. If BTCUSD rises, mining returns will increase and hashrate will follow. However, theres a good chance that if BTC were to rise 4x in price in the next 12 months, difficulty would likely struggle to keep up since theres limited new production at the moment.

    If BTC went 4x any miner produced in the past 2-3 years would be turned back on again, I would imagine the hash rate easy doubling.

    Here's hoping you're right. I don't see it happening within the next 12 months, and would have a hard time rationalizing powering up my old BM1380 or Bitfury gear even if it did.

    I have an issues with one of my new S5's. The machine powers up and it looks like the network adapter is working but the green blinking light that shows its working doesn't blink like the others. Is it a simple fix just to hit the button to return it to stock setting to get this working again? I am not in the same location of my machines so its a pain in the ass to go back to reset machine. Like I said, it powers up, the fan spins but it doesn't seem to be pulling an IP address. The machine was working fine then just stopped on day. Thanks

    me to as bad as that sounds that just give me more of a reason to keep mining. unless BTC drop to low .

    6 Antminer S5s all running slow on nicehash/westhash and randomly locking up about one a week, sp20s run full speed... any ideas?

    I'm running the updated firmware with extranonce enabled from Smit1237, but all 6 of my s5 miners run between 950 and 1050gh/s vs running near 1200gh/s when running on kano.is or a couple of other pools.  I've had 4 lockups in the last 5 weeks as well, box is just offline.  Cycling power fixes the offline issue.

    4 of them are powered via an IBM 2880W PSU with j4bberwock's breakout board, the other two are powered by an EVGA 1300, so power shouldn't be an issue.  There's plenty of overhead on the 2880 and some overhead on the EVGA.

    Any ideas on how to get them to run at proper speeds on westhash.com?

    what does westhash report your speed at?

    i noticed while on westhash my speed is under what it should be as avg, but westhash sometimes reports my speed faster.. sometimes as high as 1300 GHS.

    i think its just low diff coins.. i get like 10 blocks a day mining on westhash, the coins cant be that high of difficulty.

    You can also use custom naming for your miners when using one BTC address for multiple miners. Simply append .name to your username: YOUR_BITCOIN_ADDRESS.name where "name" can be any string with up to seven alphanumeric (Aa-Zz, 0-9) characters (if more then seven characters or if non-alphanumerical character will be used, naming wont work).

    Has anyone used NiceHashe's custom firmware for the S5s? I know it runs a newer version of cgminer that the latest Bitmain one. Wonder if there are any advantages/GUI updates with the nicehash one.

    Also what  they typical HW error rate or these? Im getting .1% on one and .003% on the other. Even though they are both really low one still produces almost a 1000x extra hardware errors.

    Advantage is it is patched to work with nicehash/westhash.  You will get better speeds most likely and more consistent.

    I personally have not used the S5 version.  I have done C1's and S4's as they are easy to fix if something goes wrong with firmware.  Smit did a very good job with firmware and I thank him for it, but keep in mind it is a unofficial firmware. 

    As far as GUI updates you will not have anything like this it's cgminer updated so more back end not gui stuff.

    I run it on 6 of mine, overall it works great, you get good speeds and you get access to graphs that smit put in place.

    I expect you'll get the answer to this question then Bitmain announces a new generation of ASIC, not just a repackaging like the S4+.
