Are there really only 2.4mil coins in circulation? Crazy inflation figures were being bandied around for GP, usually 500%PA, but that never seemed right to me from my own experience staking.
The
interest rate IS 500% annually, BUT the
effective inflation rate is much much lower due to the approximately 2.5 GP reward cap.
1440 blocks per day x 2.5 GP = 3600 GP is the absolute maximum mined per day. Right now 3600 GP works out to 0.147% inflation per
day.
Most blocks do not hit the reward cap though, so theoretically
maximum annual inflation rate at the moment is around 50% but
effective annual inflation rate is likely to be more like 25% tops. As the 3600 GP per day cap will never change, it means the inflation rate will continue dropping day after day for as long as the blockchain is moving.
