For marketing I would suggest try creating a kind of treasure-hunt on a regional or national radiostation..
I think a treasure hunt would bring some much needed exposure/promo. However, the only way to conduct such a promotion was if you were allowed to "tag" dropped geocoins specifically for the event. Otherwise people could just drop coins at their house and pick them up.
This type of "coin tagging" would make it possible for companies or groups to run their own private coin hunts promos, which would be awesome.
Coin tagging and treasure chest pickups (a centralized drop that can give a certain amount of coins to each person that visits... think of a treasure chest at a concert or outside of a baseball stadium) are two things that I think would add some real value to GEO; but it's up to Tobler to implement.
