The fact that the Lakers got Marcus Smart where the one who approached on him is Luka himself is a proof that the Lakers management are ready to move on from Lebron and will not build a team on Luka.
This contract extension made the Lakers fans happy that's for sure, and with this contract signing, Luka's eligible for a 5-year $415M contract extension on 2028. Well, there are lots of support from other players with this contract signing.
I think they have a solid bench as well, they still have Vando, Dalton Knecht and I think Maxi Kleber will be healthy this season. They also added Marcus Smart so he could also be good in rotation specially that his asset is to play defense.
It's really hard to see what path Lebron wanted to. Obviously, another ring with this cast, but let's see as you have said they really looks strong in paper. But the most important thing is that if they can translate it in court. JJ should also be in the microscope as we really don't know if he is a good fit for the Lakers as head coach or the Lakers will continue to replace their coach if things went sour.
They have a mediocre bench if you will ask me. Vando's injured for the majority of the season, they aren't giving Knecht playing time, and Kleber? I don't know if how healthy he is for the upcoming season. Comparing their bench to other team's benches in the West, they aren't that good if you will ask me. I respect your opinion though.
As for Le-GM, he will be out next season that's for sure and the fact that the management didn't gave him a contract extension is a sign. He might retire next season as well, but my prediction is that, he will sign to another team in the 2026-2027 NBA season - maybe he will sign a 1-year deal with the team who drafted him which is the Cleveland Cavaliers, but now with a much, much lower contract. Redick's coaching performance next season will be crucial because that will be the year when they will think if he's a good coach of the Lakers or not.
