Apart from the games he missed due to injury, Banchero had a pretty good season. Considering he's the franchise player for the Magic, the contract he got is reasonable. With Wagner and Suggs, Magic have a young core. They can build something on top of that. They may make the play-offs again, but I don't think they can seriously challenge for a top 4 spot in the East right now.
I totally agree with you on that.... Banchero isnt a flashy player, but hes consistent and thats what really matters in the long run.
Give him a few more seasons and more experience, and this team could easily become a championship contender. Theyve got a young core, but theres enough talent to compete, what they need now is playoff experience and consistency when it matters most.
I also get why he secured a supermax contract - he earned it.
And with his style of play, hes less likely to suffer serious injuries, which makes the investment even more solid.
