I was asked in a message how often the generation shares will be paid, below is the answer.


Generation rounds are 4,000 blocks long, about a month:

or devtome writer earnings, will get paid in round 22. Any work done after about block 85,000 and until block 89,000 will go into round 23. Round 22 starts at block 4,000 * 22 = 88,000. At the time of this writing, the block number is 82,867:

At about 1,000 blocks per week, work until roughly April 9 will go into bounty 22. Payments for bounty 22 will be between block 88,000, which will start around April 30, until around May 30. If your devcoin address is on your machine, in May you'll see many 45,000 devcoin payments arriving from generation.

The number of receiver lines will only be known at block 85,000, when the writer earnings are generated and the receiver file is made. Assuming there are 60 receiver lines this round, each line will get a payment every 60 blocks, and on average each line will receive a total of 180,000,000 devcoins 60 = 3,000,000 devcoins. For example, if someone made four generation shares from the signing bonus, and two for articles, for a total of six shares, they would get six payments every 60 rounds, or an average of a payment every 10 rounds. Their total payment would be on average 6 * 3,000,000 devcoins = 18,000,000 devcoins. Calculated at one payment every ten rounds, that gives the same figure of 4,000 10 * 45,000 devcoins = 18,000,000 devcoins.

There is something up with the wiki causing it, unthinkingbit already pointed it out, we are looking for the bug causing it.

Spam was the biggest problem on the old media wiki account. Cablepair never shut off the automatic registration so I had to manually delete spam accounts, an enormous waste of time. The spammers make articles on wikis to send traffic to dodgy sites. They will go through any automatic registration process, or even exploits in the wiki. The only way to stop them is manual registration. I don't think this is anyone trying to sabotage devcoin by attacking devtome, it is almost certainly spammers trying to make money.

Registration should be by a message through the forum to you, then you make an account for the writer. If that makes it a bit harder for writers to apply so be it, if they can't write a message, they probably can't write a good article

It should not be that a bot can fill out a form, and then you confirm or reject it. That road leads to wasting all your time.

I was thinking of more along the lines of having everyone allocated as a spam user, unless they contact me to request a "writer" status.

They'll still waste time, even if they are in a spam group. The requirements for signing up are pretty easy, if someone has trouble composing around 50 words, then they shouldn't be a writer. Your time is worth far more than that of a wanna be writer who can't even write an introduction or biography.

Because they're so exploitative, it is necessary to be shut them out completely. Otherwise they will overwhelm you with sheer volume. In the last wiki, the spam was increasing as the wiki became more popular, it would of brought the wiki to an end even if Cablepair did not abandon it.



That's a good idea. Hopefully requiring people to ask for an account will be enough. However if spammers start exploiting even that, then sending a token amount will be necessary.
