    Quantum computing research firm Project Eleven is offering 1 BTC to anyone who can break Bitcoin's cryptography.

    Quantum computing research firm Project Eleven is offering 1 bitcoin (worth around $84,081) for its first "Q-Day Prize," a global prize that will go to the first team to crack an elliptic curve cryptographic (ECC) key using Shor's algorithm on a quantum computer within a year.

    "The goal of the prize is simple but urgent: quantify the true threat that quantum computing poses to Bitcoin core cryptography," the firm wrote in a statement on Wednesday. Quantum computers pose potential threats to Bitcoin primarily through their ability to break cryptographic algorithms that secure the network.

    As Project Eleven notes, Bitcoin uses ECDSA for transaction signatures. Quantum computers, using Shor's algorithm, could theoretically derive private keys from public keys, compromising wallet security. The firm estimates that more than 6.2 million BTC, worth nearly $500 billion, are at risk.

    "We have no clear idea how close we are to a quantum ‘doomsday’ scenario for existing cryptography," Alex Pruden, CEO and co-founder of Project Eleven, said in a statement. "The Q-Day Prize is designed to take a theoretical threat from a quantum computer, and turn that into a concrete model."

    Congrats on retirement!.
    That said, sorry pal, they pulled a "fast" one on you. By going back 6 mo, you soc sec payment permanently decreases 2/3X6=4%.
    Yes, you'll get a lump sum of 6 mo, but, since you already "got" those 6mo credits, why throw them away (in a long run)?
    With numbers: say, your Ssec at FRA is $3000, then at +6 mo it would have been 3000X1.04=3120/mo.
    You would have gottten 120x12=$1440 extra per year for starters and then, with each COLA, you would be increasing the "extra".

    You may say that...so what, I've got that sweet $3000X6=$18000. It is so, but it depends on your "projected" longevity.
    Typically, the breakeven point is at about 10-12 years, give or take.
    You "won" if you live roughly less than about 12 years, "lost" if more than about 12 years.
    The exact numbers are not achieved by simply dividing 18000 by 14400 (albeit i used those for simplicity) because there would be a change in COLAs for "you" who took the lump some vs theoretical "you" who did not and the difference will accumulate.

    That said, I intend to take at FRA and also keep working. More cash flow, more btc buying potential.

    EDIT: adjusted some numbers to more accurate values.

    were you born in jan or feb? if jan, it was one month before FRA and in feb, then it was FRA.
    Days don't matter, unless it is a 1st.

    Albeit, no "fast" one pulled on me.
    I saw the numbers both ways. I am fully aware my monthly is lower than if I'd have taken March 1st.
    They totally left it up to me. I have researched the numbers.
    There is argument to be made to start collecting as as soon as one is eligible at 62.
    Like you said, who knows how long you got. I might get hit by a bus tomorrow.
    I waited to 67 FRA. I'm good with that.
    I decided to go for lump sum with a slightly smaller monthly number.
    My company laying me off in a couple of months time was also a factor.
    Hell, the way things are looking now, there ain't gonna be anything left in the pot in 10 years.
    Or some idiot not to be mentioned is just gonna fuck everything up.
    I'm totally good with my decision.

    Runny nose here... It's killing me since y'day. Probably a cold. Weather felt quite warm on Sunday and I only put on a T-shirt and was out for a few hours. Turned out not as warm as I had expected...

    Sucks to be sick. Makes you think of your coins and how/when to spend some.

    Dropped some aspirin and benadryl.

    I sweated out the fever last night. woke up with sweat drenched sheets and t-shirt and shorts allow with pillows drench ed in sweat.

    typical way that I fight a fever. If i sleep overnight and drench the bed in sweat it knocks out the fever.


    I've been there, as I'm sure have most of us. Sweaty sheets means the body is fighting (and winning) fever.

    In my case, I took a day's worth of Panadol Cold & Flu -- it always fixes my cold/flu symptoms, esp. the runny nose. Feeling much better now. Will not take anything today, and see how it goes.

    Get well soon! Bitcoin fixes a lot of things, as long as we have our health (well, it can sometimes fix that as well, kind of... but... you know what I mean...).

    For sure it can be quite difficult to know what guys who have more than 10 years in bitcoin should do in regards to putting some of any of their extra money in bitcoin or if they already have enough bitcoin (or more than enough bitcoin). 

    I would not presume that sirazimuth necessarily needs more bitcoin.. but sure, who knows?

    If I were to get some kind of a lump sum like that, I would probably plug some of it into bitcoin, even though I don't need more bitcoin, but it also seems to be a bit of a waste to have that much extra cash come in and then figure out how to spend it in the event that I might not want to put some of it into bitcoin.

    Tentatively, I am thinking to just start to collect social security as early as I can, whether I live more than 12 years or not.. I don't think that it matters very much to me, since I will likely be supplementing my income with bitcoin and other stuff, anyhow.
