Yep, bitcoin is independent currency. if bitcoin was alone in the crypto world, the price could be $900+(stable)? a lot of money has been invested in altcoins, imagine what would happen if all the money goes into bitcoin buying.

Bitcoin survived before without Altcoins too, but I feel like the altcoins are just giving it even more advantage because we so can see that there were many exit scams around, and Bitcoin had always been on the first place when it comes to everything: popularity, price and other factors that matter. Because altcoins are being traded, it somehow gives Bitcoin a boost.

of course, if there is a altcoin then we can get the price changes bitcoin. there will be a sales margin between altcoin and bitcoin. then if no altcoin then bitcoin could not develop into a major currency.

I couldn't agree more with you dude, between bitcoin and alternative coin is related each other. When the bitcoin price goes down the price of alternative coin is increase and the other way if bitcoin's price is up the price of alternative coin is goes down. It why bitcoin need a relation with alternative coin.
And quite sure it make bitcoin see big rather than alternative coin.

Legitimate in what manner? Last time I checked bitcoin is still claimed as an unregulated currency by the government. There's no papers or anything issued for the bitcoin network. Even altcoins are like this. The only difference is the fact that there's a "dev" or an owner of an altcoin whose lack of updates will lead for the drastic decrease in the price of the coin.

Actually, altcoin helped bitcoins grow and bitcoins help altcoin grow. There are some here who wouldn't be here if they didn't read an ICO post somewhere.

Maybe he is not really referring to legitimate as legal but as the real deal. There are two sides of the picture bitcoin without altcoin and bitcoin with altcoin. Bitcoin without altcoin is great since users will only focus on bitcoin and its price on the market will probably always surging up without a trace of it going down, but without altcoins means that if bitcoin shuts down it will be the end of cryptocurrency. The presence of altcoin though somehow affects the price of bitcoin but it gives our investment a multiple and diverse portfolio to choose from that so if one is gone there are many others to replace it.
